Salam, Shalom and Welcome to Scopia LLC's page for Ethiopia!
In late 2018, I visited Ethiopia for an inspection tour at the invitation of my now-friends and local partners. In this whirlwind tour of the country's most famous sites, I certainly learned a lot about a kind of tourism destination which I had never experienced before. One in which the fledgling national and tourism infrastructures are combined with stunning beauty, fantastic history and the most gentle, kind and hospitable people you can imagine.
It won't be an exaggeration to say that I fell in love with Ethiopia, and you will, too, once you come for yourself and experience this hidden, somewhat-unpolished gem. At this point in time, Ethiopia doesn't have a lot of tourists. The Ethiopians of course, are working to change this and build a much larger market, which is understandable. And it's also the reason why I urge you to visit Ethiopia soon: it is just a matter of time before the number of tourists will increase and (at least for me) that takes a bit away from the feeling of uniqueness, of visiting an unexploited destination.
This brings me to write a bit about Ethiopia as a travel destination. I feel it is not for first time international tourists. It's a large, complicated destination with many roads that are yet unpaved, a mobile network that doesn't always work, internet access which isn't always available and even electric outages which take place once or twice a day (the hotels all have generators). Travel between major sites is often done with domestic flights on Ethiopian Airlines, because driving from one city to another could take many hours or even days.
So if you're an experienced traveler, ready and able to overcome some of these minor inconveniences, you're in for a real treat! Ethiopia welcomes you with some of the world's most beautiful landscapes, fascinating history, unspoiled nature, unique local experiences (culinary, arts, etc.), beautiful lodges and modern hotels which I have personally visited. The best part of Ethiopia is it's people - gentle, kind and hospitable, always happy to see you and ready to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
In order to achieve the highest level of services possible in this complicated destination, it's very important to have a professional and experienced team to handle your visit. I am very pleased Scopia LLC has such a local team to handle my clients, lead by Dawit Teferi (a guide and scholar in his own right) of Nightjar Tours in Addis Ababa, the capital.
